Crossing the Peru (Mancora) - Ecuador (Cuenca) Land Border

Bus schedule sign in front of one of the bus companies in Mancora

Together with a friend, we bought a bus ticket to Cuenca a day before our departure. Our ticket costs $15 from Mancora. Our bus was a few minutes delayed so instead of leaving at 11:30pm, we left at almost midnight. Before going to the border, there was one police checkpoint that you have to pass through first. We got off the bus, and the police at the station checked our passports/documents. The other officers then got on the bus and had an inspection. After the bus inspection, we hopped on the bus again and proceeded to the border. It was just a few minutes away from there.

At the border, it was quite "chaotic".  There were several lines.  And there was only one "entrance" for both entrance and exit to Peru and Ecuador. They were sharing one office. Oh, there was another door which I can't remember what it is for. The barkers there were the bus conductors who were calling the people who would come in by bus. After taking our exit stamp for Peru, we had to go out the building again and line up to get the entrance stamp for Ecuador. This was the longest time that I have spent on doing a land border crossing in South America. If I was not mistaken, It took us around two and a half hours in total to get everything done. After getting our stamps, we then boarded the bus again. A few minutes right after the border, there was another checkpoint. I think this was just a random one because I did not see a lot of other police officials nor any legit sign that it was a checkpoint. So we got off the bus again with our small bags and one of the officers went on board to do some inspection. After that, we then lined up, and the other officer began on inspecting our passports/documents, to ensure that we all had our entrance stamps to Ecuador. After that, finally we then moved on to travel to Cuenca.
